Printmaking is an equally important aspect of my work. I specialise in photogravures using a traditional etching press, printing limited editions on fine art paper. I have exhibited as part of exhibitions in Britain and other countries including Canada, Denmark, Finland, Italy, Japan, Romania, and the United States. A number of private and public collections hold my work including the British Library, the National Library of Scotland, the Royal Scottish Academy and Harvard University.
A new folio of ten photogravures commissioned by Edinburgh Printmakers as part of its programme of artworks responding to the significant social and industrial heritage of Castle Mill Works, the former North British Rubber Company Headquarters in the Fountainbridge area of Edinburgh. These studies of the derelict headquarters were made just before work began to develop the site into the custom built new home of Edinburgh Printmakers, due to open in early 2019.
This series looks at the type of things that are kept in box rooms, garages and attics – the domestic jetsam that accumulates in what might be thought of as the ‘galleries of the home’. These dim and dusty venues often house extraordinary collections of objects that can embrace lifetimes and continents through their chance curations
‘Venice’ is a collaboration with the poet, Robert Crawford, professor of Modern Scottish Literature at the University of St. Andrews. The work concerns a remarkable 16th century polymath called James Crichton (1560–1582). Designed and typeset by Robert Dalrymple, the twenty-five leaf set, with eight photogravures, is printed on Fabriano Artistico 300 gsm and signed on the colophon by the poet and artist. Editions are presented in a black buckram solander box with gold gilt title.
